“Seeds of Friendship,” celebrates themes of life, peace, and companionship between Rhode Island and Japan. This two-piece stamp is centered with a heart-shaped vase including a seed within it, sprouting into a cherry blossom flower to represent the value of life and respect in Japan. Flanking the heart are hands, echoing the joyful “gimme five” gesture shared during our trip.
The physical separation of the two halves of the stamp portrays the bond shared with the person who receives the second half, making them “friendship stamps.” Only being whole when they’re physically unified, the stamps represent true friendship in that one completes the other. While they may not always appear perfectly aligned, they’re intertwined nevertheless.
